Jose Alejandro Tamayo

March 8, 1972 — May 26, 2022

Jose Alejandro Tamayo was born in Medellin, Columbia to parents Milagros de Jesus Tamayo Gutierrez and Maria Mery Navarro Arango.

Jose spent the first years of his life in Medellin, Colombia. He and his mother moved to New Jersey in 1986 where other family members had settled. Jose loved soccer, and began playing as a young boy, a practice that continued into high school and college, receiving special recognition as a scholar athlete. After graduating from high school, Jose worked his way through college, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Business from Rutgers University. Following graduation, he began his career as a paralegal. After a few years, he joined Kent International, where he worked as a warehouse manager, progressing through the years to become the Manager of Operations and, subsequently, Vice President of Compliance. Jose’s personality was such that he was genuinely empathetic, working with great care to meet the needs of customers and coworkers.

He and Revelie met in 2006 and married in 2008 in Durango, Colorado. He was an avid cyclist and especially loved riding in the mountains, so the Silverton area of Colorado was perfect for their marriage plans. He was at home on his bike in the mountains, enjoying the open country and the beauty that surrounded him. Son Ethan was born in 2011 and thus began a remarkably close father/son relationship. In the early days he would spend hours building things with Legos and assembling cars. As Ethan grew older, Jose was extremely eager to get him involved in soccer, since that had been a love in his life from his childhood. Jose taught Ethan, was with him for every practice and game, and even volunteered to coach Ethan’s team. And they did not even to have to be outdoors for soccer, as Jose was teaching him to kick a small soccer ball around the house even as a toddler.

Jose was always interested in self-improvement and took many courses after his college days to improve his professional skills. He completed several certification programs, including an Executive Certificate in Leadership & Management, Professional Certificate in Management, and Executive Certificate in Leadership from the Mendoza College of Business, University of Notre Dame.

As a loyal son, husband and father, he worked diligently to better their welfare and meet all their needs. We will always remember him as a kind, caring and compassionate individual who put others before himself. Taken too early in life, his legacy will continue to live on in his family, friends and others who knew him even from a distance.

Jose is survived by his loving wife Revelie Maddox, son Ethan Tamayo and mother Mery Navarro.

An Afternoon of Remembrance will be held Sunday, June 5, 2022, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Allen Family Funeral Options.
