Jon Crook

October 11, 1946 — March 30, 2019

Jon Crook, along with his twin brother Don, was born on October 11, 1946 in Dyess, Arkansas to parents Lowry Williams and Mabel Eleanor (Kramme) Crook.  They eventually moved with their parents, older brother Jim, and sister Carolyn to Dallas, Texas, where he completed most of his schooling and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School.  During those years he played the saxophone in the band and earned his Eagle Scout.  Following graduation from high school, he attended the University of Mississippi.  While there he played in the marching band, and more importantly, he met his wife of 51 years, Pat.  After receiving his Bachelor of Arts, Jon served as an artillery officer in the Army and was stationed in Fort Bragg, North Carolina and Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Jon served in Korea as a member of the Second Infantry Division when it was called upon to counter heightened border infiltrations and incursions by the North Koreans. He left the Army with the rank of Captain.

While in Oklahoma, Jon and his wife Pat welcomed their first son Lowry.  Following discharge from active duty in the Army, they moved back to North Texas, and Jon went to work with his father and uncle for Great American Reserve Insurance Company.  They also welcomed their second son, Hunter.  Plano became their home in 1975 and several years later, their daughter Katherine was born.  Around that time, they also became members of Christ United Methodist Church in Plano, where Jon was an active member until his passing.  During Jon’s career in the insurance industry, he underwrote insurance and provided the group life and health policies to teachers and staff for decades at both the Dallas and Plano Independent School Districts, as well as several other school districts in North Texas.

Throughout his life Jon enjoyed travel, hunting, fishing, and the simple pleasure of a walk in the woods.  He also took up golf, and regularly enjoyed this aggravation throughout his adult life and into retirement.  He was an avid reader of war history, admirer and enjoyer of beer, and a master smoker of meat.  A man of action more than of words, he led his sons’ cub scout pack, donated his time to Meals on Wheels, and regularly ushered and took part in the funeral ministry at Christ United Methodist Church.  Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, his children and grandchildren in particular.

Jon passed from this life into eternity on March 30, 2019 at his home in Plano, Texas. He is survived by his loving wife Pat Crook, children Lowry A. Crook and spouse Susan Lagana, B. Hunter Crook, Katherine I. Crook and spouse Mitko Blazeski, grandchildren Jonathan, Ella, Charlotte, Caroline, Jon Hunter, Wyatt, Jaycee and Alex. Also surviving is Jon’s mother Mabel Mae (Kramme) Crook, twin brother Don Crook and spouse Brenda and sister Carolyn Hefley and spouse Paul. Preceding Jon in death was his father Lowry William Crook and brother James Lowry Crook.

The family will receive friends at a visitation on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at Allen Family Funeral Options. A memorial service honoring Jon’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at Christ United Methodist Church, 3101 Coit Road, Plano, Texas 75075.
