John William Rost

November 9, 1961 — May 1, 2025

Richardson

John William Rost, 63, passed away on May 1, 2025, in Richardson, Texas. A devoted father, grandfather, veteran, and man of unwavering faith, John lived a life marked by service—to his country, his family, and his God.

Born on November 9, 1961, in San Francisco, California, John was the son of Jim and Jane Rost. He graduated from La Solana High School in 1979 and soon after answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Navy. He completed training at the Naval Submarine School in 1981 and went on to serve with distinction aboard nuclear submarines. His military career spanned over a decade until his honorable discharge in April of 1992. Following his time in the Navy, John transitioned into civilian life with the same dedication he had shown in uniform, working in the facilities maintenance industry. Throughout his career, he was known for his reliability and technical expertise.

John’s life was deeply rooted in faith. A faithful member of Hunters Glen Baptist Church, he found great joy in teaching Sunday School and leading Bible studies within his community. His commitment to sharing the message of Christ’s perfect sacrifice was central to his identity. He spent his later years fulfilling what he believed to be his greatest calling—spreading the Gospel and encouraging others in their walk with God.

In 2015, John received a life-saving double lung transplant—a gift that profoundly impacted him. Grateful beyond words to his donor and their family, he became an advocate for the Donate Life program. His gratitude inspired him to support others facing pulmonary fibrosis diagnoses through participation in various support groups. His compassion and willingness to share his journey brought comfort and hope to many.

John was also a loving father and grandfather who cherished time spent with family. He is survived by his mother Jane Rost; sister Joanna Lawler; children Nancy Edwards, Christopher Semple, Levi Tinney, April Wild, Laci Mendoza, Schuyler Adams, and Rachel Rost; and grandchildren Kyler Winfield, Jerimiah Wild, Layla Wild, Madison Fox, Avery Edwards, Ryan Adams, Cheyanne Adams, Mia Mendoza, Hannah Mendoza, and Pyper Adams. He was preceded in death by his father Jim Rost; brother Jimmy Rost; and grandson Peter Fox. His beloved wife Vicki Rost joined him shortly after his passing.

John William Rost will be remembered as a man of steadfast faith who lived with purpose and conviction. His legacy lives on through those he taught, supported, loved—and through every life touched by his testimony. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
