John Parker

March 20, 1948 — October 16, 2022

John Joseph Parker passed away peacefully at home after a yearlong battle with cancer. John was born in 1948 in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan to Harold and Mary Ann Parker. He attended high school at Austin Catholic Preparatory School and graduated in 1966. It was at Austin that John made many lifelong friends and developed the basketball skills that led to a full four-year scholarship to The University of Detroit Mercy.

In the late 1980’s, John and his family moved from Michigan to Plano, Texas. After a successful 30-year career in the natural gas industry, John made the decision to return to college and pursue a high school teaching certificate. For 10 years he thoroughly enjoyed the students and the business classes he taught at The Colony High School.

John loved his family, reading, sports, playing games of all kinds, and Motown Music. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sue, his two children, Rebecca Johnson and Mathew Parker, their spouses Brandon Johnson and Susan Parker, his five grandchildren Andrew and Kaitlyn Johnson, Nicholas, Alexander and Colin Parker and his brother, Thomas Parker.

John will be greatly missed by all who call him family or friend.

An Afternoon of Remembrance will be held from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at The Allen Family Funeral Options.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital. https://www.stjude.org/
