John Henry Mooney was born January 19, 1937 in Dryden, Texas to Monte Claire (McCain) and Henry Abram Mooney. He died peacefully at home on October 5, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was 81 years old.
Being an Air Force ‘brat’, his family traveled all over the world. He started high school in Japan and his second year of college was in the Panama Canal Zone making 38 different schools prior to adulthood.
John joined the Air Force at Albrook AFB in Panama in 1957. He transferred to Laredo AFB in 1958 where he met the love of his life, Ana Castillo. They married in 1959 and started their family which grew to five children. John left the Air Force in 1962 and began a 40-year career in Civil Service. His Federal career consisted of many occupations including electronics, missile systems analyst, technical instructor, equipment specialist, computer systems analyst, computer programmer, and division chief of information management.
His favorite occupation was serving the public as a trainer in the Silva Method beginning in 1971. His major preoccupation was with helping others develop their God given abilities.
John is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ana Mooney; daughter Patricia Bassine and her husband Steven; sons Patrick, Michael, Brian Mooney and his wife Jennifer; grandchildren David Bassine, Allison (Bassine) Butler and her husband Patrick; Mikayla, Jonathan, Grace, and Claire Mooney; sisters Monte Killebrew and Lenora Holt. John is preceded in death by his parents, brother Buck McCain Mooney, and first daughter Katherine Anne Mooney.
A funeral initially planned for Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church Catholic Church, 2700 W Spring Creek Pkwy, Plano, Texas has been postponed due to a family illness. Please check back for tentative rescheduling for sometime next week.
Private burial will be in the family cemetery in Whon, Texas on land donated by his maternal grandfather, Sam H. McCain.
