Joel Lloyd Blaisdell was born in Kasson, Minnesota on September 22, 1944 to Harold and Myrna Blaisdell. He died of cancer complications on October 25th, 2024 surrounded by his family.
After attending Mankato State, he started working as a DJ in Rochester, Minnesota. He transitioned to sales for the radio station, which led to a position as Marketing Director and later General Manager of Apache Mall, Rochester.
He married Judith Smith in 1976. They moved to Las Vegas, Nevada with their young son, Peter in 1978 where he managed another regional shopping center, the Boulevard, owned by MEPC. Their son, Andrew was born in 1982. Joe was involved in Boy Scouts with his boys and also served on the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce’s Business Council and the Rotary Club.
When he was promoted to Vice President of Leasing with MEPC in 1991, the family transferred to their headquarters in Dallas, Texas. They made their home however, in Plano, Texas. There he continued his community involvement and became a member of Custer Road United Methodist Church where he and his family were especially involved in the music ministry.
He was an avid golfer his entire life, and in Plano he enjoyed a wonderful group of golfers who became great friends. Joe was a devoted and loving husband and exceptional father. He was over the moon in love when his granddaughters came along.
He is preceded in death by his brother Tom and Tom’s wife Linda (Stensrud) and their daughter Melissa Blaisdell Storlie.
Joe is survived by his wife Judy, son Peter and his wife Kacey and their daughters Rebekah, Joanna, Leah, and Makayla of Fort Worth, his son Andrew and his wife Katie and their daughter Mae of Minneapolis, and his sister Chris (Ron) Olson of Sarasota.
There will be a memorial service to celebrate Joe’s life on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at 4:30 pm at Custer Road United Methodist Churech, 6601 Custer Road, Plano, Texas 75023 with Rev. Timothy Morrison officiating.
There will be a burial service in the family plot in Northfield, Minnesota at a future date in 2025.
