Joe Halpin

February 8, 1950 — January 3, 2024

Joseph Patrick Halpin (Joe) was born on February 8, 1950, in Grand Junction, Colorado. He passed peacefully from this life, in his home, to meet his Savior Jesus face-to-face, on January 3, 2024. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Joni, as well as his sisters, Colleen Alton, Merilee Maira, and Bonnie Hawley, and their children. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Vera Halpin.

Joe served a total of nine years in the U.S. Army, interrupted by his time at Northern Arizona University, where he earned a BS in Anthropology and a Masters in Business Administration. While working in intelligence in the Army, he first learned the Russian language and enjoyed speaking it, then later discovered his passion of computer programming and left the Army to take a software engineering job in the Dallas area. He has since worked at Nortel Networks, Cisco Systems, Luminator LTG, and Navigation Solutions. He earned the nickname "Radar" because of his ability to hone in on errors and "bugs" and to work relentlessly until they were resolved.

Once he retired, he enjoyed programming "for fun," tinkering with robotics, playing his guitar, watching sci-fi and action films, and, of course, watching Joni hoop and holler during Dallas Cowboys games.

A service will be held for Joe at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, Texas 75211 on January 19, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. A reception will follow at noon at Chase Oaks Church, 281 Legacy Dr., Plano, Texas 75023 in the Legacy Room.
