It is with deep love and cherished remembrance that we announce the passing of Joanne Abdulla, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who peacefully departed this life on September 11, 2025.
Joanne was born on October 10, 1936, in Canton, Ohio to parents, Ralph Chester Davis and Lillian Jeanette Wolfe Davis.
Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Duro A. Abdulla, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and partnership. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Petersen, and her brother, Daniel Davis. And her granddaughter Erica Abdulla.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth in the hearts of those who knew her. She is survived by her children Steven Abdulla of Houston, Texas and Diane Murray of Plano, Texas. She was the proud grandmother of Ryan Stark of Centerville, Virginia and Ricky Murray of Rockwall, Texas, and a loving great-grandmother to Sarah Stark.
Joanne is also survived by her sister, Linda Eckenrode and her husband Roger of Daytona Beach, Florida, daughter-in-law Jenny Stark as well as extended family including her sister-in-law Grace Mellman of San Diego, California and brothers-in-law David Abdulla and Joseph Abdulla, both of Canton, Ohio.
She will be deeply missed by numerous other extended family members and dear friends in Texas, Ohio, and beyond.
A woman of intellect and compassion, Joanne was a lifelong reader and lover of literature. Her love for gardening brought beauty to her home and joy to those around her. She also gave generously of her time and heart to various charities throughout her life.
Her professional career was dedicated to the telecommunications industry, where she worked diligently and proudly for Ohio Bell and Southwestern Bell Telephone, retiring after a fulfilling career.
Joanne will be remembered for her unwavering strength, kind heart, sharp mind, and the deep love she shared with all who knew her. She lived a life full of grace and generosity and leaves behind a family and community deeply grateful for her presence.
Joanne will be laid to rest alongside her husband Duro at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 17, 2025, at the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery.
