Joann Surles

March 16, 1938 — March 28, 2023

JoAnn “Mimi” was a beloved great-grandmother, grandmother, mother and wife during her incredible 85 years of life. Born in Lake Providence, Louisiana on March 16, 1938, she passed away peacefully in the early hours of March 28, 2023.

Joann always provided support and love for her family and had a love that could be seen and felt by all. She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Al, and children Kathe Cox (Ken) and Bryan Surles (Karen), 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

JoAnn attended LSU and graduated from McNeese State in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science degree. As Mimi used to say, “Working with children was always my life dream”. She fulfilled her dream and taught for 35-plus years, inspiring her students to achieve their goals.

Along the way, JoAnn had to pick up golf to spend more time with her husband. She played for many years and developed some great friends while at Hurricane Creek Country Club. Surprisingly, the women always played faster than the men, and yes, she might have taken money from Al a few times!

There will be a memorial service to celebrate JoAnn’s life 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 2023 at First Christian Church, 813 E 15 th Street, Plano, Texas.
