Joann Faith Touchstone Low was born on October 9, 1933, in Big Spring, Texas and she died on February 27, 2022, at the age of 88 in McKinney, Texas. She was preceded in death by both her parents, Jack and Bertha Owen Touchstone, and her four sisters, Georgia DuMond, Margaret Touchstone, Carolyn Walker, and Tommie Bronson.
Joann is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Weldon Low, brother Jack Touchstone and his wife Luan, daughter Debra Plummer and her husband Lester, daughter Terri Rothrock, and son, Jody Low; four grandchildren, Shelly Waskom, Laura Perry, Daniel Low, and Leslie Steveson, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Joann’s life was dedicated to home and family, and she excelled at both. An accomplished cook, she was famous for her talents in the kitchen, and everyone knew that if it came out of Mawnanny’s kitchen, it was bound to be delicious. Her recipes are treasured still and passed down through generations of the good cooks she taught us to be. She was a painter of ceramics and canvas, and her art decorates some of her family’s homes today. She also made beautiful crochet and cross-stitch projects.
She could whistle like a pro, with some even swearing she could whistle in harmony, all by herself. She was the Queen of Texas Colloquialisms, and if she didn’t know one for a given situation, she wasn’t above making one up on the spot. She sang in her beautiful alto voice in scholastic groups and church choirs, and sometimes sang product jingles from the 1940’s for her children’s entertainment.
She was a believer in and follower of Jesus Christ and was a member of Wesley and Kentwood Methodist Churches in Big Spring, First United Methodist Church of Plano, and First Baptist Church of Lucas over the years.
The beloved matriarch of our family will be fervently missed by our aching hearts, but we are comforted and assured by our faith that she is in Heaven and enjoying reunions with those loved ones who had gone before her and will be there to joyously welcome the rest of us when our time comes.
“We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:8
