Jean Gibbs

January 23, 1945 — June 5, 2024

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Jean McClanahan Gibbs, 79, on June 5, 2024. She had been diagnosed with brain cancer just a few months prior.

A longtime resident of Richardson, Texas, Jean was born on a farm in Carlisle, Kentucky to Harold Dudley and Bernice (Montgomery) McClanahan. She was a 1963 graduate of Nicholas County High School and received her degree from Eastern Kentucky University in 1967. In addition to raising her two children, she worked for the Army Corps of Engineers and the Environmental Protection Agency, primarily in Dallas, Texas.

A devoted mother and grandmother, she will be fondly remembered for experiencing life through the prism of several principles, which were as follows:

o   Always be early

o   Never procrastinate

o   Follow all the rules all the time

o   Never leave the house without being fully dressed and made up, even if it is just to the mailbox

o   Fill the gas tank up even when there is still a quarter of a tank left

o   Freely volunteer your opinion on all subjects with conviction

o   When faced with two possible answers, choose the more pessimistic one

Jean was recently preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Meredith Franklin Gibbs. She is survived by her daughter, Venetia Ann Robertson and husband Greg, their children Reid Allan and Reilly Georgeann; her son, Justin Montgomery Gibbs, and his children Jordan Montgomery and Jacie Rose; her sister, Faye McClanahan Robinson, and her children Darren Ray Robinson and Melanie Robinson Swartz.

A private ceremony was held for the immediate family at Allen Family Funeral Options.
