Jean Fields, age 89, passed away peacefully in Allen, Texas on Thursday, October 5, 2023. Jean was born in Gatesville, Texas on April 6, 1934. She was the youngest and only daughter of Ira McNeil and Minnie May (Carter) Todd. Jean graduated from Abilene High School, and it was in Abilene, Texas at the skating rink she met her soulmate, Jerry Ray Fields.
She married the love of her life on June 12, 1952, in Abilene while Jerry was serving in the U.S. Air Force stationed at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, Oklahoma. They were married and shared life together for 64 years. To this union were born 3 children Jerry Dwight Fields, Melody Anne (Fields) Miller, and Kelly Gene Fields.
Jerry's work took the family to several cities in Texas including Abilene, Houston, Big Spring, Gainesville, Austin and Monroe, Louisiana. In the late 1960's they moved back to Monroe where they settled and made that their home. They were long time members of the First Christian Church.
Jean's lifelong dream was to own her own business which came true after opening multiple retail shops. Jean was a successful entrepreneur in retail for over 30 years. Ooh'n Ahh Candle and Gift Shop was the most-well known and remembered. Additionally, she owned Port 'O Call, Everything Under the Sun, The Gourmet Shop and The Tea Room. She was a
natural businesswoman. Jean's energetic personality, drive, passion, creativity and selling expertise kept her active in retail until she retired. She mentored many employees and touched many lives throughout her career.
In 2005, Jerry and Jean moved back to Texas and settled in McKinney to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Jean enjoyed Boating on the Ouachita River, Water Skiing, yearly vacations to Lake Ouachita, Arkansas, Mardi Gras, Snow Skiing, riding their Harley-Davidson motorcycle, tripsto Las Vegas, girls’ trips to Gulf Shore, Alabama, Line Dancing and having Fun. Jean truly had a zest for life and lived it to the fullest. She was a proud Texas A&M "Aggie" grandmother.
Jean is survived by her son Jerry Fields and his wife Genae of Cypress, Texas, daughter Melody Fields Miller and her husband Bill of Anna, Texas, daughter in law Pauline Fields of McKinney, Texas, grandson Christopher Fields and his wife Nicole of Prosper, Texas, grandson Connor Fields and his fiancé Madison Matheny of Texas, great grandson Easton and great granddaughter Avery of Prosper, Texas, niece Julie Lindgren and her husband Vince of Pleasanton, California, great nephew
Todd Lindgren and his wife Melanie of Livermore, California and their two sons Cooper and Stuart, and several cousins. She was preceded in death and welcomed into heaven by her beloved husband Jerry Fields, youngest son Kelly Fields, parents Ira and Minnie Todd, brother Waymon McNeil "Pete" Todd and his wife Johnnie, Wallace Ray "Tooter" Todd, nephew Mike Todd, niece Chris Todd and Carl D. and Georgie Martin Fields.
Jean and Kim Jones had a very special bond during this journey. She would call Kim "Her Adopted Daughter". The family wants to acknowledge and give Kim a special thank you for her kindness, caring, support, compassion, patience, and for loving Jean like her own Mom.
Jean will be laid to rest with her husband at DFW National Cemetery. Graveside services will be Monday, October 23, 2023, at 1:30 PM at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, Tennessee or a charity of your choice.
