Janet M Bensman was born August 8, 1948 in Celina, Ohio to parents Albert John and Marcella Dorothea (Schmitz) Knapke.
Janet grew up on a farm near Sharpsburg, Ohio with her parents and her sister. After graduating from Fort Recovery High School she went to college at the University of Dayton and graduated with an Associates degree in Business. She said she always wanted to be a secretary with lots of paper on her desk or a fashion designer, and in a way she ended up doing both. Her hobby was sewing and jewelry making and she made everything from bags to quilts to even her own wedding dress. She had her daughter in 1988 in Fort Wayne, Indiana where they stayed for a couple years and then they ended up moving to Flagstaff, Arizona for a short time as well. After a couple of years they ended up in Georgetown, Texas where they settled down and put down roots.
Janet started working for the University of Texas at Austin in 1994 in the University Health Services department. In 2004 she transferred to the Counseling Center at UT. After her daughter left for college in 2006, Janet moved to live in Austin and she loved it there. She spent her free time going to concerts with friends, trying new quirky restaurants, and enjoying all the shopping Austin has to offer. Janet retired in 2017 and had a beautiful retirement party with all of her friends to send her off for a job well done.
She moved up to Frisco after retiring to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law and found Watermere to be the perfect place to live. She made so many new friends and had so much fun during her time living at Watermere, and she got to try out new hobbies like water aerobics and painting.
Janet will always be remembered for her smile and great attitude. She loved to be silly and make people laugh.
Janet is survived by her loving daughter Jennifer Munsie and her husband Michael; grand dog Evie, grand cat Penny; sister Paula Stibich; nephews and nieces Paul Stibich and his wife Anne, Beth Meece and Mark Stibich.
There will be an Evening of Remembrance to celebrate Janet's life on Saturday, April 18, 2020 from 6-8:00 p.m. at Allen Family Funeral Options.
