Jane Moore McCabe, 92, passed away in Plano, Texas on May 25, 2026. She was born March 6, 1934, in Amarillo, Texas to father James Philip Moore and mother Grace Crawford Moore. She and her twin sister, Jean, were the youngest of eight children.
She was a graduate of Amarillo High School. Jane was a long-time resident of North Dallas and Richardson, Texas. She and her husband Laurence McCabe retired to a lake house on Cedar Creek Lake near Gun Barrel City in 1996.
Jane was married to Laurence J. McCabe for 52 years before his passing in 2006. Jane met Larry on a blind date set up by her sister Betty. Originally, Jane was going with Larry’s friend, Lowell and Jean with Larry. But as the two men walked up, Jean said “switch” and the rest was history.
Jane supported her children and family as a stay-at-home mom by providing delicious meals, attending sports games and helping with the Girl Scout troop as “Cookie Master”. She was always heavily involved and outside her family she would drop everything to help people.
Jane was a devoted Catholic who in recent years said the rosary each day. She served her church community as a RCIA sponsor and as a member of the Altar Guild at St. Jude Catholic Church in Gun Barrel City.
She was always ready to tell a funny story and usually it was something she had done. She gave the best hugs and had such an infectious laugh. Some would say she was the communications hub of the family.
Jane loved to travel; she once drove to Minnesota from Texas, picked up her sister-in-law, Charlene, and the two drove to Seattle and Gearhart, Oregon to visit nephews and spouses, before returning home approximately 5,600 miles roundtrip.
Jane loved to play cards, especially Bridge and Hand and Foot. She loved knitting and crocheting, creating many treasured blankets for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, plus hot pads, and hats as well.
Jane is survived by her children David McCabe (Kathy), Cathy Ivy, Philip McCabe (Annabel), Elizabeth Baxter (Thomas) and Carrie Flores (Roland); grandchildren Matthew, Ryan, Mark, Jim, Russell, April, Jill, Lauren, Megan, Sean, and Kylie; great grandchildren Rory, Tess, Graham, Josie, Emily, Erin, Natalie, Jake, Melody, Aaron, Adeline, Ashton, and McKenna; brother-in-law Gene Smith, and sister-in-law Rae Moore and numerous nephews and nieces.
There will be a rosary at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 2, 2026, followed by a mass at 11:00 a.m., at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
Jane will be laid to rest at Mary Queen of Heaven Cemetery, in Malakoff, Texas.
