James "Jim" Leon Haws, 84, peacefully passed away at his home in McKinney, Texas, on January 3, 2025. Born on July 3, 1940 in Cordell, Oklahoma, to Minnie and J.D. Haws, Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.
On March 27, 1964, Jim married the love of his life, Bobbie Jo Ward, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Together, they built a life rooted in love, faith, and family, raising two children, Melissa and Kevin, who were his pride and joy.
Jim was a proud graduate of the University of Oklahoma, where he earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering. His career spanned more than 30 years in defense systems at Texas Instruments and later Raytheon, where his expertise and dedication left a lasting impact. He retired in 2009, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and innovation.
Outside of his professional life, Jim had a passion for restoring his 1934 Chevrolet and cherished time spent with family at the lake. A man of deep faith, Jim was an active member of Plano Bible Church for over 50 years, serving as a deacon and dedicating himself to mission work. His unwavering commitment to his faith and community inspired those around him.
Jim's greatest joy came from his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Bobbie Jo Haws; his children, Melissa Charles (Alfonso) and Kevin Haws (Cynthia); and his grandchildren, Kaitlyn Charles, Preston Charles, Jordan Haws, and Tyler Haws (Brittany). He was also blessed to welcome his great-grandson, Hudson Haws, into the family. Jim is also survived by his brother, Alan Haws of Norman, Oklahoma, and his sister, Joann Daynes of Manton, California, along with many extended family members and dear friends.
Jim's kindness, dedication, and quiet strength touched everyone he met. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
