James Lynn Harms, known by those who loved him best as Jim, was born September 27, 1955 to Eugene (Swede) and Pauline Harms in Holdrege, Nebraska.
Jim completed his Bachelor’s degree at Kearney State College in 1977 and went on to spend his whole career in insurance before retiring in 2018. Jim was passionate about his job and the people he met throughout his career. He also didn’t hate that the job took him on the golf course and to a nice resort on occasion!
Jim married the love of his life Maureen on October 8, 1988 and was blessed with two daughters, Jamie and Kelsey. He spent their childhoods fully present, never missing a soccer game or choir concert. Making sure his children knew how proud he was of them.
Jim was a very active person and thoroughly enjoyed going for bike rides, skiing, golfing, waterskiing, camping with friends and traveling. He also loved to go on walks with the family’s two dogs that preceded him in death, Bentley and Husker.
Jim knew no strangers, he was energized by people and brought joy to a room instantly. He kept people rolling in laughter because he could find humor in the most mundane life circumstances. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Jim. He loved spending time with his family and friends, going out to food/drinks (especially ice cream) and cheering on the Nebraska Huskers. He had an uncanny ability to find happiness and was a great friend. This was showcased through many lifelong friendships that he still nourished.
Jim lost his battle with Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson’s disease on October 10th, 2021 at the age of 66. Jim was surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
Jim is survived by his wife, Maureen; daughters, Jamie Soileau (husband Blake) and Kelsey Yacovoni (husband Michael) and grand-kids, Logan Soileau, Brooklyn Soileau and Emily Yacovoni. He is also survived by his sister Vicki Pedley (husband Joe) and many nephews, nieces, and dear friends he loved greatly.
