James Allan Bohnsack

December 3, 1942 — September 13, 2020

James Allan Bohnsack went to be with the Lord on September 13, 2020, at the age of 77, after a lengthy illness. He was born on December 3, 1942, in Joliet, Illinois, to Glenn Bohnsack and Elizabeth Benn Bohnsack. Jim enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as a Systems Engineer for IBM, Raytheon, and Cornell University where he retired in 2010. He never knew an unhappy day among his mainframe computers and work friends. Jim grew up in Will County, Illinois, and graduated from Peotone High School, Peotone, Illinois, in 1961. He graduated from Millikin University, Decatur, Illinois, in 1967, and soon afterwards entered the IBM corporate training program. He felt privileged to have spent the first 27 years of his career with a company that gave him so much. He wore his 25-year-anniversary Rolex watch until the day he died. Early in his career, and with two babies at home, he attended night classes and graduated with an MBA from the University of Chicago. This self-made man was proud of his achievements and the example he set for his children. Jim was a 40-year member of Christ United Methodist Church in Plano, Texas; he enjoyed his service there as an usher and homebuilder with “House on the Corner” along with his involvement in men’s Bible studies and breakfast groups. After his corporate retirement, he worked part-time with the church’s Sports and Rec Ministry. He manned the information desk, worked the snack counter, and enjoyed conversation with everyone who walked through the door. In his free time, he delighted in watching his eight grandchildren play sports and was a fixture at those games. Jim was pre-deceased by his parents and is survived by his three children, Kristina Kay Roberson (Eric), Kimberly Sue Brannon (Joe), and Douglas Voigt Bohnsack (Wendy); his former wife, Kathryn Voigt Bohnsack; his brother, Richard Dale Bohnsack (Kathleen); his sister-in-law, Janet Voigt Robbins; his grandchildren, Victoria Leigh Roberson, Alicia Kimberly Roberson, Luke Eric Roberson, Julia Kristine Roberson, Andrew Truett Brannon, Abigail Kristine Brannon, Zackery Voigt Bohnsack, and Troy Harris Bohnsack; and many beloved nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Dayspring Assisted Living for exceptional and loving care during the last three years of his life.

The family will hold a private interment. A Memorial Service will be held at a future date when it is safe to gather. Memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s name to Christ United Methodist Church’s Sports and Rec Ministry, 3101 Coit Road, Plano, Texas 75075, https://cumc.com/ or Dayspring Senior Living, 6400 Cheyenne Trail, Plano, Texas 75023, http://www.dayspringal.org/
