Horst Pedde, age 77, passed away on May 31, 2020 at his home in Plano, Texas.
Horst was born on October 21, 1942 to Eduard and Eva (Jeske) Pedde in Laubsdorf, Germany. He grew up in Dorfmark, Germany and immigrated with his family on May 11, 1954 to Quebec City, Quebec and then went to Port Colborne, Ontario where they lived for a number of years.
Anne Marie Ochs was born in Belecska, Hungary. In January 1957, like the Pedde family, the Ochs also immigrated to North America, but settled in Buffalo, New York. Horst met his wife, Anne, at a church camp in Toronto in 1964. They were married on July 8, 1967 and moved to Toronto where they welcomed their children, Jennifer and Steven. As divine providence would have it, someone knocked on their door in Bolton, Ontario and offered to purchase their home. So the couple, with their young family, moved to Plano, Texas. In Plano, Horst worked as a self-employed general contractor. He made an honest living by the sweat of his brow and utilized his talents to make sure his family never went without while being overwhelmingly generous with everything God gave him.
Horst enjoyed the simple pleasures: attending Plano Bible Chapel, singing tenor in the choir, attending the Wednesday morning prayer breakfast, vegetable gardening, potting flowers and feeding the birds, which he loved very much, on the driveway. As his kids left home and went off to college, his sometimes-rough exterior, hardened by years of physical labor in the Texas sun, gave way to a more mellow and easy-going demeanor, as if he realized that he’d raised his kids the best way he possibly could. He spent his latter years reaping the rewards as his kids went on to have successful careers while bringing eagerly awaited grandchildren. Although he dealt with health-related issues over the past few years, he continued to live life on his terms while being a selfless caregiver to his beloved wife. He was highly independent, loved traveling, attending family reunions across the Atlantic and spending as much time as he could with loved ones.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Anne; daughter, Jennifer Smith, her husband Bill and their daughter, Lucy Kate; son, Steven Pedde, his wife JoEllen and their son, Ethan; brother, Richard Pedde, his wife Maria and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in the US, Canada and Germany.
His master replied, "Well done! You are a good and faithful servant. You’ve been faithful over a little. I’ll put you in charge of much. Come, celebrate with me." Matthew 25:23
