Helen Anderson

September 18, 1935 — April 22, 2025

Helen JoAnn Eggers Anderson, born on September 18, 1935, spent her childhood on her family's farm in Waconia, Minnesota with her cherished brother Charlie. As a young woman, she pursued higher education at Macalester College, earning a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. There she met Dennis Anderson, whom she married in 1956. Together they had two sons, Bradley (Brad) and Michael (Mike).

Helen is lovingly remembered by her sons, Brad (Rosetta) Anderson and Mike Anderson; her cherished grandchildren, Sarah (Enrique) Anderson, Laura (Navid) Anderson, Steven Anderson, and Christopher Anderson; her dear longtime friend, Kitty Struchen, niece, Ty, nephew, Mark, and numerous beloved friends.

A fiercely devoted mother and a strong, independent woman, Helen continued her education after raising her children, earning a master’s degree from Mankato State University. In 1994, she relocated to Texas to advance her career and be closer to Mike and his two daughters.

Helen's commitment to high standards was evident in her discerning taste across all areas of her life, from her elegant attire to her thoughtfully curated home and appreciation for music and literature. This dedication resulted in beautiful and welcoming traditions which she nurtured for family and friends and is likely the same spirit that fueled her competitive nature and enjoyment of games such as bridge and cribbage.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Helen actively supported her sons through years of practices and games, enjoyed playing golf herself, and enthusiastically cheered on her grandchildren during sporting events. She followed Minnesota hockey and baseball and, after moving, wholeheartedly embraced North Texas teams. She rarely missed a Texas Rangers game on TV.

Helen possessed a remarkable array of talents such as sewing, knitting, quilting, and embroidery. Her family especially cherished her baking, with her extensive assortment of cookies and breads at Christmas being a highlight of each holiday season.

A wonderful babysitter and, later, project collaborator, Helen frequently hosted sleepovers for her granddaughters, sharing her crafting skills and demonstrating that they could be successful at almost anything to which they put their minds.

Helen enjoyed traveling to visit friends and family across the country. Memorable trips included visits to North Carolina to see Brad and spend time with her grandsons. She often spoke fondly of her European trip with Mike, Sarah, and friends, where she had the opportunity to visit her ancestral homeland.

Helen was rarely without a fluffy white dog with whom to share her love and home. Her current dog, Max, brings a smile to the face of everyone he meets. He has joined Sarah’s fur family in the wake of Helen’s passing.

Helen JoAnn Eggers Anderson passed away peacefully on April 22, 2025, in Richardson, Texas, surrounded by family. Even in her final week, Helen maintained an active social life, playing bridge and attending an Easter celebration with friends and neighbors. She will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by many.
