Harvey D. Letcher, Jr.

January 2, 1942 — May 5, 2026

Carrollton, Texas

Harvey D. Letcher, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and winsome friend to all went peacefully home to heaven on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at the age of 84. Harvey was born on January 2, 1942, in Dallas, Texas to his parents Harvey D. and Dee Louise (Holloman) Letcher.

Harvey’s life was built upon his faith in his Savior Jesus Christ, and centered on his family, many dear friendships and most importantly, service to His Lord. Harvey grew up in Dallas, giving his life to the Lord as a young teenager. He graduated from W.W. Samuell High School in 1960 where he was a cheerleader and enjoyed coordinating student events. It was there he met his beautiful wife of nearly 65 years, Shirley JoAn Robinson. They were married in 1961, and after graduating from North Texas State University, Harvey began his career at First National Bank in Dallas. Later, he joined Coopers & Lybrand, then University Computing Company conducting sales and consulting and building lifelong relationships. Harvey was a gifted communicator, encourager and negotiator, gifts that eventually led him to enjoy many years as an executive recruiter and to open the firm Sandhurst Associates with two close partners.

Harvey and Shirley joined Prestonwood Baptist Church in 1989 and after many years in the business world, the Lord called Harvey to join the staff there in 2012 as Security Director. After a number of years, he went on to oversee the First Impressions ministry until his health limited him in the Fall of 2025. The entire Letcher family has been blessed by the many friendships and bonds Harvey enjoyed as he worked, served, and worshipped at Prestonwood. A people-person at heart, Harvey never met a stranger and had a smile and an encouraging word for most anyone he was around. His humor, quick wit and charm were gifts to all who encountered him. His last prayers were for more time on earth to serve the God he loved with the people he loved.

Some of Harvey’s favorite times were spent traveling near and far with Shirley to attend all sorts of games, performances and activities for their five grandchildren. Weekends were spent attending track meets, recitals, volleyball, football, baseball or softball games, choir concerts, theatre performances, award ceremonies and graduations throughout their years in grade school, high school and college. Harvey’s wardrobe was full of spirit gear for every school they attended. Nonnie and Grandy were ever-present grandparents at both PCA and Covenant for years and many friendships blossomed in those bleachers and aisles. When they weren’t cheering on their grandchildren, Harvey loved to take Shirley to Texas Rangers games or slip away to Austin for another Texas Longhorn home football game. Clearly, together with family was his happy place, and as a man of few hobbies, he would lovingly say, “Shirley is my hobby!”

Harvey is survived by his wife and companion of nearly 65 years, Shirley JoAn (Robinson) Letcher; daughter Jill Moore and husband Doug, of Dallas; son Harvey D. (Trey) Letcher III and wife Lori of Plano; five grandchildren, Benson Moore and wife Emily, Brooke Graham and husband Mason, Julia Letcher, Harvey D. (Cort) Letcher, IV and wife Morgan, Audrey Letcher; great-grandchildren Charlotte and Wesley Moore, and other beloved extended family members.

There will be a memorial service to celebrate and thank God for Harvey’s life at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Prestonwood Baptist Church in the Worship Center, with Neal Jeffrey officiating.
