Harold "Wes" Wesley Whitlock, Jr.

August 3, 1931 — December 12, 2018

Harold Wesley “Wes” Whitlock, Jr. was born on August 3, 1931 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Harold Wesley and Helen (Barnhill) Whitlock, Sr. He passed away at the age of 87 on December 12, 2018 in Plano, Texas.

He attended Classen High School in Oklahoma City and graduated from the University of Oklahoma, with a degree in Journalism. Wes was an Army veteran of the Korean War conflict.

In the late 1960s, Shelly and Wes started and operated a business called Shellibands, which manufactured and sold designer headbands out of Rockwall, Texas. Wes also worked for many years for both Perot Systems (later to become Dell Systems) and directly with Ross Perot on both of his Presidential campaigns. Wes and Shelly were highly involved in soccer. He founded the North Texas State Soccer Association. He was a pioneer in soccer in the United States and both Wes and Shelly were U.S.S.F. soccer referees. Together, the also founded the Michelob Ladies Football Club (MLFC), which won 6 national championships in the Women’s Open Division. His love for soccer continued until the day he died. He was always watching games on TV and even provided the soccer World Cup schedule to his special caregiver, Theresa, so she and her husband wouldn’t miss any games they wanted to see.

Wes was preceded in death by his parents, son John Whitlock (2003) and his wife (the love of his life) Shelly Whitlock (2016).

He is survived by his step daughter Wendy Odell (Mike) of McKinney, Texas; step son Jeff Greenberg (Laurie Logue) of Austin; daughter Lynn Houser of Salem, Oregon; son David Whitlock (Marta) of Polson, Montana; grandchildren Eric Houser; Eric Joachim (Cassandra), Adam Joachim, Ian Whitlock, Jordan Germaine (Patrick) and Shelby Odell; and great grandchildren Clive Houser and Madeline Joachim. Also, Wes’ cat, Blackie, who was his special friend and companion.

The family wishes to offer their special thanks to Scarlett Crapser, Sheri Mungai and Missy Rodgers for always being there and lovingly caring for Wes. And also to his personal nurse, Theresa Hamner.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Christ Church 4550 Legacy Plano, Texas 75024.  Inurnment to follow in the Christ Church Columbarium.
