Harold Sidney Bailey

Harold Sidney Bailey was born May 31, 1924 in Ensley, Alabama to parents Clifton and Ila Bailey. Surrounded by family, Harold passed away peacefully on August 7, 2019 in Plano, Texas at age of 95.

He was one of thirteen children and had a twin sister Helen. He graduated from Ensley High School and Paul Haynes Vocational School. After graduation he attended Bob Jones College in Greenville, South Carolina; this is where he met his future wife Daisy Belle Baines in the dining hall. The two were married for 72 years.

While at Bob Jones, Harold worked as a night watchman to help pay his way through college. After graduating from Bob Jones College, he attended Southeastern Seminary at Wake Forest, North Carolina and he graduated with his Bachelor of Divinity Degree.

In 1945, Harold accepted his first call to preach at a church in Maine. Over the next 13 years he pastored churches in Alabama, Tennessee and Virginia. Harold began working for the Virginia Baptist Board of Missions and Education as the Associate Secretary of Training Union Work in 1958. In 1964 he was elected Secretary of Annuities for the Baptist General Association of Virginia where he covered Virginia, Maryland and the District of Colombia. In 1973 Harold accepted the position of Vice President of Development among churches in Dallas with the Annuity Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. Once in Dallas, he became a Dallas Cowboys fan and retired from the annuity board in 1988.

Harold understood the vast difference between speaking the gospel and being and doing the gospel. Upon retirement he and Daisy traveled extensively on mission trips to over 27 different countries; Harold was instrumental in carpentry and plumbing projects while on these trips.

Harold is survived by his loving wife Daisy; a son Tony Bailey and his wife Melanie; grandchildren Mandy Bailey, Michael Bailey and his wife Hayley, and Karra Hallien; great grandson Kash Arenas. He is preceded in death by his parents; son Erwin Bailey and many brothers and sisters.

A memorial service to celebrate Harold’s life will be held, Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. at Citizens Church, 4501 Legacy Dr., Plano, Texas, 75024 with Chaplain Bobby Tollison officiating.

Harold will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Restland Memorial Park, Dallas, Texas.
