Leonard Guy Oden, 79, of Dallas, Texas, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home surrounded by loved ones on April 11, 2022. Born on September 2, 1942, in Dallas, Texas, he was the son of the late Fred B. “Jack” Oden and Mattie Lou (Reeve) Oden.
Guy graduated from W.W. Samuell High School in 1960. Guy met Mary Ann (Daniel) in middle school, and they dated in high school and married in 1962 right after Mary Ann graduated. They were due to celebrate their 60 th wedding anniversary in December of this year. After school he worked for the Coca Cola Company for several years before being drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War. During his two years of service, he was stationed in Colorado Springs, Colorado; Honolulu, Hawaii & Vietnam where he was a cook. Mary Ann joined him in Hawaii for six months before he was sent to Vietnam. When they returned to Dallas, Guy spent a lengthy career in the auto repair business. Early on he was an auto body shop repair person and shop supervisor, however, much of his career was spent as an auto insurance adjustor.
Guy was beloved by his family and all who knew him. He was the kind of person who had life-long friendships and never met a stranger. He just had such a big heart for those he loved. He was immensely proud of both of his sons, Marshall & Mitchell. He was ever present in their activities as coach of their baseball teams and chief of their Indian guides. He often said his greatest job ever was being “Gramps.” And he was a fantastic Gramps! He attended all the games & events with each grandchild and always told them how wonderful he thought they were. Quick-witted, smart, and just plain funny, Guy always had the best Dad jokes and repeated them often. What we would not give to be able to hear one more.
Guy is survived by his faithful and adoring wife, Mary Ann; son Marshall Oden and wife Kacy; son Mitchell Oden & wife Lori; and grandchildren, Grant Oden, Sydney Oden, Xanth (Kate) Oden and Collin Jones. He is also survived by other loving family members including his sister, Gail Tidwell and husband, Harold; his sister Kathleen Taylor & husband Gary; brother-in-law Red Daniel and wife Sandy; sister-in-law Penny Freeman and husband John; nephews, nieces, cousins as well as other friends who loved him dearly.
