Gloria Reese Miers

April 4, 1926 — March 27, 2021

Gloria Joy Reese was born on Easter Sunday, April 4th, 1926, in Corsicana, Texas to parents James Milas and Cora Ada (Wolfe) Reese. This Easter Sunday she would have celebrated her 95th birthday.

She was the 11th child born to James and Cora Reese and grew up on their cotton farm in Itasca, Texas.  If you knew her for any time, you knew of the unmatched love and endless stories that came from that home.  Gloria was the baby and last of that generation to leave this Earth - what an incredible reunion there is now in Heaven!

Gloria married Dewey Miers in 1947 when after a short time, they settled in Houston, Texas.  She began a 27 year “Tupperware” career there and was nationally recognized many times as the top saleswoman in the country.  She touched and became a part of many lives through the home parties and women she managed.

She and Dewey moved to Louisiana in 1974 where they owned and operated the Alpine Golf and Country Club for 25 years.  The success of the club was due in large part to her love for the people that came through the clubhouse door.  Many a golfer came without their clubs to just have a cup of coffee with her.

Gloria and Dewey began the “Legends of Western Swing Music Festival” in 1989, which became the largest music festival of its kind in the country.  Gloria became affectionately known as the “Grande Dame” of Western Swing and has been inducted in to four western music Halls of Fame as a Music Producer.

The Festival was awarded Best Festival in the World by the Ameripolitan Music Awards in 2015.  She is unsurpassed in her support and love for these musicians and their fans, which were truly her family.  Since 2005, she resided in Plano, Texas.  The 45,000 members of Prestonwood Baptist Church quickly became an intimate family to her.  She answered every “how are you” with a “truly blessed” and lived every day of that blessed life for her Savior, Jesus Christ.

She was His instrument in the lives of everyone she met until the morning of March 27th, when He called her to His side.  The pride and joy of her every day were her three children.

She leaves in a God-centered legacy and host of love and sweet memories, her children Charles Dewey Miers, Jr., of San Antonio, Texas, Thad Miers of Bossier City, Louisiana, and Melinda Miers of Plano, Texas; grandchildren Daniel Miers and his wife Kelli, Taylor Henri, Anna Cotton and her husband Kyle, Laura Miers, Meagan Oakes and her husband Dalton, Blake Henri, Chad Henri and Erica Henri; great grandchildren McKinley, Jack, Preston, Olivia and Luke.

What a precious gift she was to our world!

The family will receive friends for a visitation Thursday, April 1, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Allen Family Funeral Options, Plano, Texas.  There will be a service to celebrate her life in Christ on Friday, April 2, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Prestonwood Baptist Church, in Faith Chapel, 6801 W Park Blvd, Plano, Texas 75093.  Visitation at the church at 10:00 A.M. prior to the service.

Gloria will be laid to rest with her parents in a family burial site at Itasca Cemetery, S. Wall Street, Itasca, Texas following the service.
