Glenn Ray Smith, age 90, passed away May 5, 2023. Glenn was a loving husband, a devoted father of two, and proud grandfather of five. Everyone who knew Glenn would say they never met anyone quicker to smile or slower to anger.
Glenn was born January 22, 1933, in Bethesda, Ohio to Madie Minerva Barr Smith and Waldo Dewitt Smith. He grew up in southeast Ohio and attended Ohio State University. He earned a five-year bachelor's degree in petroleum engineering and became a lifelong supporter of Buckeye football. After graduation Glenn was employed by Phillips Petroleum Corporation where he worked for 31 years. During those years he had the opportunity to live in many locations and work on many interesting projects including living in Stavanger, Norway while working on the Ekofisk project in the North Sea.
On February 14, 1959, Glenn married Nell Denman of Denton, Texas and began a 64 year adventure that included living in seven different locations and traveling to six different continents.
Glenn is survived by his wife Nell Kenneth Denman Smith, children Mark Alan Smith and his wife Christie Glenn, Karen Jeannette Smith Stallard and her husband Joe Stallard as well as his grandchildren, Nolan Michael Smith, Tyler Matthew Smith and his wife Claire Smith, Hannah Michelle Smith, Matthew Cade Stallard, and Daniel Ray Stallard. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Kenneth Barr Smith, Mary Lucille Smith Brown, and Clifford Hamilton Smith.
Glenn was a lifetime member of the Methodist church and served the New Mexico and Northwest Texas Conferences for many years as a volunteer. After retiring Glenn compiled a 25-year statistical history on the Methodist churches in that area for use by the bishop. Glenn also volunteered for many years at the Globe of the Great Southwest in Odessa, Texas, where he served as President of the Board of Directors in 1996 and 1997, earning recognition as volunteer of the year in 1997.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 15, 2023, at Allen Family Funeral Options, 2112 West Spring Creek Parkway, Plano, Texas. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. If you wish to join the service via webcast; please visit: Glenn Ray Smith (funeralvue.com)
