George William Rommel was born September 18, 1938 in Jersey City, New Jersey to parents George and Florence (Van Wart) Rommel. He passed away September 11, 2019 in Plano, Texas.

George was raised in Jersey City and the surrounding areas. Shortly after high school graduation, he met Carolyn Leming. They married in 1959 and soon began to start a family together while George attended night school at St. Peter’s College, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He began his Accounting career at Pantasote Inc.

In 1972, George followed his dream of living in the south, moving the family, which now included his children, Jim and Susan, to Plano, TX. He worked for many years as an Accounting Department Manager at Varo, Inc. before retiring in 2003 at Avnet.

As a young man, George enjoyed playing basketball and handball. He also played in a Men’s Softball League for many years. He loved listening to music of almost any genre. He had a great passion for the outdoors, working in the yard and personally building and enjoying their lake house at Cedar Creek Lake, which created lifelong memories for the family. George, fondly referred to as “Pop Pop”, loved attending his grandchildren’s artistic and athletic activities. He was an active member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, where he enjoyed being a part of the Men’s Club and his neighborhood group called the Farsiders. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was cherished by all those whose lives he touched. He will be greatly missed.

George is survived by his son Jim Rommel and his spouse Karen, daughter Susan Rommel-Boyd and her spouse Kristen, grandchildren Pace, Leah and Hannah Rommel, Erica Kerby, Pierce and Davis Glenn, and sister Judy Rommel. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Carolyn, his parents and brother Raymond.

The family will receive friends for a visitation Monday, September 16, 2019 from 6-8:00 P.M. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2700 W Spring Creek Pkwy, Plano, Texas 75023. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church with The Rev. Bruce Bradley officiating.
