George Thomas Bennett, 72 was born in Kansas City, Missouri to George and Twila Bennett. His dad worked for various Railroad companies and moved the family where his job led him. It was in Anchorage, Alaska where the family settled down. At the age of 14, George was a Disc Jockey in the Silver Age of radio for the #1 Top Forty station in Alaska. At 16 he became interested in T.V. when he was hired for a dance program a.k.a. "American Bandstand" for the ABC Affiliate in Anchorage Alaska. In 1969 - 71 George was the film editor for the Midnight Sun Broadcasting in Ancohrage. In 1971 he graduated from Dimond High School and entered the Navy as a T.V. Production Specialist, and for 10 years he wrote, directed, and filmed over 900 training films for the U.S. Navy. It was while he was in the Naval Service in Virginia Beach, Va. that he got filled with the Holy Spirit. He worked for Pat Robertson and CBN when it was just a small station in Portsmouth, Va. and was involved with the Jesus Movement of the late 60's, early 70's as a member of Rock Church in Norfolk, Va.
George received his BA in Radio & TV at East Texas State in 1986 and also a BA in Theology from Criswell College. He was also a Disc Jockey at a Christian Radio Station in Dallas. In the early 2000s George received his MBA in Accounting from Grand Canyon University. In 1990 George moved to Hawaii where his parents and twin brother had moved a few years earlier. George worked as a Disc Jockey at a Christian Radio Station and worked in retail. While working at the radio station, he met his wife Dee and in 1993 they were married. In 1999
they moved to Texas. George worked at a security company as a Supervisor for the Call Center. They moved back to Hawaii in 2007 where he later became an Associate Pastor at a local church. In 2015, they moved back to Texas and have been living with their daughter Twila and son-in-law Chris since.
George spent his free time reading or listening to audio books, watching movies and he enjoyed playing Baldur's Gate 3 on the PC. He enjoyed painting and learning tips on sketching. His past avocations were scuba diving, photography and judo (in high school and in the Navy). George always enjoyed discussing the Bible with anyone, be it friends, family, Pastors or strangers.
In 2024 George passed away on November 3rd and his twin brother passed away on August 10th. Both of them now reunited with their mom, dad and younger brother. George is survived by his wife Dee, sons James and Matthew and daughter Twila with her husband Chris Hainey and 2 nephews George and Jonathan.
George was a beloved husband and father. He will always forever be in our hearts and will be deeply missed.
