George Francis Ackels

George Francis Ackels was born November 26, 1952 in Dallas, Texas to parents Lawrence Edward and Isabel Mary (Zoghby) Ackels. He currently lived in Plano, Texas and passed away January 24, 2019 surrounded by his beloved family.

George was a man of deep faith. He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife of thirty-six years, Alana. George and Alana shared a romance for the ages. They traveled the world together and lived life to the fullest. George’s favorite moments were with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed going to games, recitals and all events to be with his family. George was one of ten Ackels siblings. He loved every one of them and would often share stories about their childhood together. George was also the proud UG of numerous nieces and nephews.

George was a pioneer and senior executive in the Information Technology industry where he worked at EDS for thirty-one years with additional roles at EMC, VCE and ATOS. From humble beginnings, he grew a highly successful career where he managed regional data centers, global operations teams and critical customer accounts. George was a trusted mentor and friend to hundreds of people throughout his career.

He is survived by Alana Ackels, his loving wife of 36 years; son Ryan Ackels and his wife Jennifer of Omaha, NE; daughter Kaylee Smith and husband Mike of Murphy; daughter Allison Soper and husband Braundon of Murphy; grandchildren Aidan Smith, Camden Ackels, Madeline Smith and Molly Ackels; brother Lawrence Ackels Jr and wife Mary of Dallas; brother Henry Ackels and wife Carol of Dallas; sister Mary Emma Karam and husband Dr. Al of Dallas; brother Michael Ackels and wife Veronica of Dallas; brother Joseph Ackels and wife Linda of Dallas; sister Theresa Kemp and husband Gary of Greensboro, GA; brother Gregory Ackels and wife Shari of Dallas; sister Miriam Claerhout and husband Mark of Dallas; sister Cecilia Martin and husband Matt of Dallas; brother-in-law Dan Groover of Graham, TX; sister-in-law Kyla McGee and husband Jim of Carrollton; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his parents, Isabel and Lawrence Ackels Sr.

There will be a rosary/visitation Thursday, January 31, 2019 at 7:00 P.M. at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church, 1914 Ridgeview Dr, Allen, Texas 75013. There will be a mass of the resurrection February 1, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church. George will be laid to rest at the columbarium of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic, 2700 W Spring Creek Pkwy, Plano, Texas 75023.
