Edward Eugene “Gene” Emery was blessed to be the son of Hidalgo County Texas couple Olin C. Emery and Ruth Pursley Emery, born on January 24, 1931. He was preceded in death by his parents and older sister Jo Annette Miller of Bakersfield, California. In June 1954 he married soulmate G. L. “Geri” Emery who also preceded him. Gene and Geri were blessed with a son Alan Emery and his wife JoLynn Hampton Emery of North Richland Hills, Texas and grandson Andrew Emery and wife Dayton of Keller, Texas. Also, their loving daughter Karen Emery and granddaughter Jennifer Carroll of Plano, Texas.
It was Gene’s privilege to serve 3 years in the Navy Civil Engineer Corps. He was educated to be an architect with a Bachelors from Texas Tech and a Masters from the University of Oklahoma. He practiced architecture for 22 years in Oklahoma City with Frankfurt and Short, creating a variety of commercial and military projects including many hospitals and aircraft maintenance facilities. He was then a faculty member for 21 years at the University of Oklahoma developing undergraduate and graduate students in the study of architecture. His family also recognizes his third “career”, despite being officially retired, as a skilled number-smith and financial sage to help provide a strong knowledge base and a secure future for later generations as his parents and grandparents had done for him.
In retirement his creative energies focused on oil painting. He and Geri loved to travel in their retired years as well as their working years. He completed his mortality on January 21, 2021 and relying on Christ as Lord, is now in the eternal presence of his Creator.
