Gaye Doherty Twiss

Gaye Doherty Twiss was born on August 12, 1942 to Bill and Gertrude Doherty. She was called home on May 5, 2018.

Gaye grew up in Gulfport, Mississippi. She was a graduate of Harrison Central High School. Growing up, she played basketball for her high school. She was a member of Lizana Baptist Church where she played the piano. Gaye met and later married the love of her life Patrick M. Twiss on July 4, 1959. She then moved to Garland, Texas where she worked for Multi Circuits and Varo. She also worked in home daycare and was the activities director for Hillcrest Nursing Home.

She was very active in her children’s school activities and was the president of the PTA at Bradfield Elementary. Gaye had a great love for the Lord, her other love was her family. She extended her love for family by being a foster parent. She enjoyed family get togethers, church, reading, writing stories, cooking, gardening, shopping, playing the piano, children, the elderly, going out to eat, diet coke, old movies, giving to others, holidays, and making special occasions extra special. Gaye’s life revolved around Christ and her family. Those two things were the most important things to her. She also loved her dogs. They were her babies. Gaye was a member of Woodhaven Baptist Church in Garland, Texas where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was a very giving person and was always thinking of ways to help others. She had a strong faith in God and wouldn’t hesitate to share it.

Gaye is survived by her son Michael Twiss and his wife Terrie, daughter Lisa Doerr and her husband Steve, brother Jim Doherty and his wife Diane, brother Jerry Doherty and his wife Exie. Grandchildren Meisha Doerr, Patrick Twiss, Jessica Roberts, Summer Twiss, Amanda Watkins, Michaela Brooks, Skylar Brooks, Shelbie Twiss, Starla Twiss, Carissa Twiss, Ema Lee Blackwood, Jaylon Jermany, Michael Stone and 10 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Patrick Michael Twiss, daughter Teresa Brooks, son Robert Twiss, father Bill Doherty, mother Gertrude Doherty, brother Larry Doherty, sister-in-law Robin Doherty, father-in-law Warren Twiss and mother-in-law Adelaide Twiss.

The family will receive friends for a visitation Thursday, May 10, 2018 from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Allen Family Funeral Options, Plano, Texas 75023. The funeral service to honor and celebrate Gaye’s life will be Friday, May 11, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at Hunter’s Glen Baptist Church, 4001 Custer Road, Plano, Texas 75023. Gaye will be laid to rest with her husband at Ridgeview Memorial Park, Allen, Texas.
