Gary Allen Dinkins

November 14, 1950 — September 5, 2025

Anna

With heavy hearts and loving remembrance, we announce the passing of Gary Allen Dinkins, a man known for his quick wit, impish charm, and love of a good argument. To know Gary was to know warmth, laughter, and a good-natured challenge and was always delivered with a twinkle in his eye.

Born in Lynchburg, Virginia, on November 14, 1950, Gary was the son of James Abram and Leone McFaden Dinkins. He graduated from Brookville High School and Lynchburg College.

Gary’s career took him from General Electric to Ericsson, following the company from Lynchburg to Dallas, Atlanta and eventually back to Dallas. His work ethic, intelligence, and leadership made him a respected colleague and friend throughout the years.

Gary was predeceased by his cherished wife, Patricia Ann Dinkins, with whom he shared a deep and enduring love. Together, they made their home in Tyler, Texas, where they lovingly raised their granddaughter, Kyla, a role that brought Gary immense pride and joy.

He is also preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters, Rosalia Dinkins Ballowe and Dolores Dinkins Cheatham.

Gary's legacy lives on in the lives of those who loved him most. He is survived by his devoted daughters: Alicia Dinkins Hatcher (Darin), Cary Ann Dinkins Hoge (Jeff), and Teresa Dinkins Haarz (Blaine); and his beloved bonus children: Michelle Watson (Greg), Jaqueline Horsley (George Sweetnam), Joseph Carden, and Christopher Carden. He was a proud grandfather to 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Gary is also survived by his sister, Karen Dinkins, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family who will deeply miss his sarcasm, humor, and presence.

A private memorial service celebrating the lives of both Gary and Pat will be held at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Brookhill School in Bullard, Texas. Contributions may be made at: https://www.brookhill.org/give/brook-hill-fund/.
