Gale Hufstutler

Gale Hufstutler passed from this life Saturday evening August 13, 2022, at the age of 94. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Gale was born at Hall Valley Texas in San Saba County on March 29, 1928, to Henry Jefferson Hufstutler and Della Luticia (Wicker) Hufstutler. Gale was baptized in San Angelo and graduated high school in Rochelle Texas in May of 1944. After school he went to work for West Texas Utilities and, on May 15, 1949, married his wife Leona Mae (McQueen) Hufstutler. Gale was drafted and served in Korea with the 712th Transportation Rail Operations Battalion, Company B in 1953 and ‘54. Returning home, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Texas Tech in 1957 and was honorably discharged from the Army with the rank of SGT(T) in 1961. Gale was a licensed Engineer and pursued a 38-year career in the defense industry starting with Mel par in Virginia and ultimately retiring from Lockheed Martin in Texas in 1991. He was instrumental in many early achievements in avionics and weapons guidance technology and had key roles in the A-7 program and the DFW airport AirTran’s system.

Gale was devoted to his family and was always willing to serve and help friends and family when needed. He was an elder at St. Barnabas Presbyterian Church in Richardson, volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, and was involved in various interests including his lifelong interests in music and photography.

Gale was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Leona Hufstutler, his son Alan Hufstutler and wife Sue, of Merkel, Texas, his daughter Traci Iverson, husband David and granddaughters Alyssa Iverson and Kathryn Iverson, of Houston, Texas, sister-in-law Frances McQueen of San Angelo, niece Susan McQueen of Plano, Texas, nephew Jim McQueen and wife Nancy of California. Gale is also survived by grandsons Nickolas and wife Brittney of Abilene, Texas, Chad and wife Jessie of Alma Michigan and Jeremy and wife Liz of Grand Rapids Michigan along with great grandchildren Tristan, Evie, Nathaniel, Benjamin, Reagan and Kennedy.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 24, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Barnabas Presbyterian Church, 1220 W Belt Line Road, Richardson, Texas.
