Fred H. Burdett

Fred Burdett was born in Douglasville, Georgia on March 2, 1930 to Wade Emmett Burdett and Fronnie Ingram Brooks Burdett. When he was age 5 the family moved to Guntersville, Alabama where he attended school and graduated in 1948 from Marshall County High School. He worked for the textile mill there and played baseball with the company team. In 1950 he moved to Dallas, Texas for employment and remained in the metroplex area. He was always active in sports, playing softball, hunting, fishing, bowling, and taking up golf at age 70. In 1989 Fred retired from A & W Bearings in Garland, Texas after 13 years there. He enjoyed woodworking and other crafts in his retirement years as well as traveling. He volunteered with Caring Hearts at Baylor Hospital at Garland for 12 years encouraging heart patients and their families that there is life after heart problems. He was also a volunteer marshall at Los Rios Country Club Golf Course in Plano.

In 1988 Fred married Audrey Vandiver Huey in Plano, Texas. At the time of his death they had been happily married for 29 years. Together they traveled to all 48 continental states, Canada, Mexico, and the Bahamas. He will be missed by family and friends because of his outgoing and joking personality. He never met a stranger.

Fred is survived by his wife Audrey, step-children, Kenneth Huey (Jane), Bruce Huey (Myrla), Nina Sutherland (Chris), Sandra Huey, Mark Huey ( Jennifer), several step-grandchildren, niece-in-law Barbara Eubanks, and three great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Lenora Eubanks and Hazel Burdett, brother and his wife Hurschel “Curley” and Beulah Burdett, and only nephew Steve Eubanks.

A visitation will be held from 1-2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1 at Hunters Glen Baptist Church, 4001 Custer Road, Plano, Texas 75023. A funeral service will follow directly after at 2:00 p.m. at the church.
