Florine (Flo) Ganze Jenkins

June 2, 1929 — July 5, 2021

Please check back soon for a memorial tribute video.

Florine Audrey Ganze Jenkins truly lived her life with Christ in God and was taken to her heavenly home on July 5, 2021.

On June 2, 1929, Florine was born to Nellie Maude McGaughey and August Mayfield Ganze in Dallas, Texas. Florine was 10 th in her 1946 graduating class of North Dallas High School.  She attended SMU for one year (1946-1947), completed twelve months of the Baylor University School of Nursing program (1948-1949), and then transferred to the Baylor University in Waco and graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. While in Waco, Florine developed her singing voice by performing with a women's trio, joined the Athenian social club, and was commemorated by a time capsule on the campus. She would never mention that she was voted a Baylor Beauty.

Robert (Bob) Estes Jenkins, Jr. graduated from Baylor at the same time and they were married at Trinity Baptist Church in Dallas.  Florine embarked on her career as a pastor's wife in 1950, in addition to working as a schoolteacher and helping Bob earn additional degrees from Southwestern Theological Seminary. Bob's pastorates, his Association Mission work, and Texas Baptist Convention work took them all over Texas including Cooper, Amarillo, Levelland, Tyler, and Dallas.  Florine enjoyed their travel opportunities to various states for the yearly Southern Baptist Conventions. Florine held church leadership roles in children's Bible education and music, sang in the worship choirs, and sang solos with her gifted voice. Florine and Bob loved and missed all the churches and the people they served. Florine saved every correspondence they received from friends and family as “memorabilia” and indeed, for the reader, they are treasured reminders of God's love.

Florine shared 60 years of a Christ centered marriage and a joyous ministry with Bob who proceeded her in death in 2011. She is fondly remembered for helping to care for aging family members and sitting by Bob's side every day for 6 months until his death. Florine was the organizer for birthday and holiday celebrations.  She made a decadent pound cake, a tradition that the Jenkins family continues. She was also known for her enjoyment of games including Scrabble and 42. Florine dearly loved each of her 4 children and 6 grandchildren, was encouraging of their endeavors, and proud of their accomplishments.

The family was blessed to have her so well taken care of for the last several years in Richardson; 5 years at Appletree Court and the past two years at Dignified Living with nursing care and Hospice.  She was 92.

Florine is survived by her children, Byron Jenkins and his wife Peggy, and their children Erik (Braelin) and Kyle; Vivian Floice Powell and her son Andrew (Emma); Glenn Jenkins and his wife Karla and their children Natalie, Samantha Piersall (Logan) and Carter; and Robin Gail Mojica and her husband Hiram.  There are also two recent great granddaughters – Helen Florine Powell (Drew and Emma) and Jewel Noel Jenkins (Erik and Braelin).

There will be a Visitation from 6:00pm - 8:00pm on Thursday, July 8, 2021, at Allen Family Funeral Options.

A Graveside service will be held at 10:30am on Friday, July 9, 2021, at Restland Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas in the Garden of Freedom section across the street and south of the Funeral Home. Use the entrance behind and west of the Administration Building on the southwest corner of Greenville Avenue and Restland Road/Walnut Street.
