Eugene "Gene" T. Flynn

October 3, 1926 — November 9, 2019

Eugene (Gene) T. Flynn was born October 3, 1926, in St. Joseph, Missouri, and died on November 9, 2019, in Dallas, Texas.  Gene was both a devoted husband to his wife Joy and father to their 5 children.

Gene served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force before retiring after 20 years of service in the reserves.  During their lives together, Gene, Joy and family moved around the country as Gene was promoted in his career with the U.S. Census Bureau. Starting in St. Joseph, Missouri, they subsequently relocated to Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base, Missouri, Charlotte, North Carolina, Arlington Heights, Illinois, Plano, Texas, and later retired to Sunrise Beach, Missouri, and Harlingen, Texas.  Ultimately Gene and Joy settled in Plano, Texas, to be closer to family.

In addition to his professional career, Gene was a skilled jack-of-all-trades.  He could place a foundation, frame, plumb and wire a house, and then replace a clutch or rebuild an engine.  As a founding member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Plano, Texas, Gene put those skills to work building the rectory and classrooms as well as the church's altar, lectern and side table, among many other projects. In 2014, Gene and Joy’s marriage was featured in The Texas Catholic at http://www.texascatholic.com/2014/09/02/the-flynns-a-marriage-built-to-last/ . In June of 2015, they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Gene lost Joy to cancer in February of 2016.

In addition to Joy, Gene is preceded in death by his mother and father, Addie and James Flynn, and his brothers James, Alfred and Joseph Flynn.

He is survived by his sister and brother-in law Rosemary and Robert Harman; 5 children, Mark (Mary), Brent (Nancy), Scott (Lyn), Tracy (June) and Susan; twelve grandchildren, Bryan Flynn (Micelle) , Bridget Flynn, Molly Flynn, Ashley Olson (Erick), Megan Moloney (Brian), Katelyn Flynn, Cooper Flynn, Samantha Werner (Daniel), Spencer Coley, Casey Flynn, Laura Coley and Tyler Flynn; 6 great grandchildren, Fiona Flynn, Madelyn Coley, Brent Flynn, Asher Olson, Leo Olson and Claire Moloney as well as many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held between 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 14, 2019, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2700 W. Spring Creek Pkwy, Plano, Texas.  A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 15, 2019, also at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church with a reception will follow.

If it is your wish, the family suggests donations, in Gene’s name, to the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2700 W. Spring Creek Parkway, Plano, Texas 75023 - New Building Fund.
