Edward (Ed) Glenas Brashear was born October 14, 1934 in Richmond, Kentucky to parents Herman and Ida (Mc Intyre) Brashear.
Ed was a man who was devoted to his wife and family. Betty was the love of his life, and he was very proud of his son, Glen. Visits from Glen, his wife, Sara, and their two little dogs gave him endless pleasure. He moved to Texas to be near his granddaughters as they grew up. Brenna and Hannah always brought a smile to his face and a twinkle to his eye. His two greatgrandchildren, Clark and Leni, were a great source of joy. He loved watching them as they played, and he was in awe at how smart they are.
Ed was a proud Marine. He served in Korea toward the end of the war and loved talking about his experiences and places he visited. He was endlessly interested in military history and would read, or watch shows about any era whenever he could.
Love of God and his church have always been the foundation of his life and faith. While living in Lexington, KY, he looked forward to his weekly visits to the sick and welcoming new members. He researched and wrote devotionals weekly for the church and was the Sunday School Superintendent. Once he moved to Texas, he made many, many friends at the First Baptist Church of Allen. The fellowship he enjoyed with his Sunday school class was the highlight of his week.
Ed was an amazing master carver. He had an incredible eye for detail and was so skilled he was asked to carve the gate logo from the original Griffin Gate Farm for the Marriot Griffin Gate Resort in Lexington, KY. He carved large replicas of the Plano Police Department and the ATF shields as well as the Marine insignia. He carved nearly exact copies of coins, anniversary spoons, and various wooden novelties. He was always on the lookout for a new project.
Ed is survived by his loving wife Betty Brashear, son Glen Brashear and his wife Sara, grandchildren Brenna Nuckols and her husband Tyler, Hannah Slot and her husband Colin and David Stapel and Andrew Stapel, great grandchildren Clark Nolan Slot and Lenora June Slot, brother O’Bryan Brashear and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends Sunday, April 22, 2019 from 2:00-4:00 P.M. at Allen Family Funeral Options. A funeral service to celebrate Ed’s life will be held Monday, April 23, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at First Baptist Church of Allen, 201 E McDermott, Dr. Allen, Texas 75002.
