Edmund Harry Aznavorian, born January 5, 1930, in Detroit Michigan passed away on April 19, 2026, in Plano, Texas at the age of 96.
Son of Armenian immigrants, Harry and Effie, who escaped the 1915 Armenian massacre, Ed’s father died while he was a senior at U of D High School class of 1948. After stepping up to run Noble Shoes, the family shoe store, he was drafted into the US Army in 1952, serving as a corporal with the first armored division during the Korean War. On leave in Bethesda, Maryland, he met his wife-to-be, Norma Lee Curry, and married her in 1952. Together they raised three children, Karen, born in 1954, Edmund, Jr in 1957, and Angela in 1960.
Ed built a long career as a regional sales rep for Weyenberg men’s shoes, traveling the Midwest, before a promotion took the family to Scituate, Massachusetts in 1971.
After retiring from the shoe business, he went on to sell cars at Haydocy Pontiac in Columbus, Ohio, where he made many dear friends.
In 2003, he settled in Plano Texas to be near family. Even in retirement he remained active – taking college courses, devouring books on World War II history, and joining the AHL Poker League becoming the oldest and longest serving member. Ed played poker at local bars until he was 96, never missing a game, always a Rum and Coke with lime, and cigarette in hand. He lived independently until 95 when a fall led to his move to assisted living.
Ed was a true character – fearless, full of strong opinions, endless stories, and colorful expressions we still quote. He loved his family above all, remembering every birthday and names of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He adored The 5th Dimension, The Temptations, and Sam Cooke, old comedies with Laurel and Hardy and Abbott and Costello; and westerns, especially Gunsmoke, Clint Eastwood, and Charles Bronson.
He is survived by his sister Madeline in Michigan, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A final celebration and tribute will be held at his favorite spot, the Hub Sports Bar in Plano on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery in the coming weeks.
He was our rock…our storyteller, and our biggest cheerleader ..., and always said the most important thing is family, family, family. We will miss him every single day.
