Dwight Spain

May 27, 1943 — December 26, 2024

Dwight Spain, 81, died on Thursday, December 26, 2024, in Prosper, Texas. The youngest of four children, Dwight was born in Georgetown, Texas, on May 27, 1943, to Thomas Roy Spain and Elsie Viola Spain.

He attended Georgetown High School, where he played football and formed his own country and western band that performed locally. He even had the privilege of singing with the Bob Wills band in Austin, Texas.

At the age of 19, Dwight met his future wife, Wanda Jean Lloyd, while working on a road crew in Marlin, Texas. Jean was just 16 years old, and the two quickly formed a bond that would last for 62 years. They married in Kosse, Texas, at the First United Methodist Church on August 17, 1962.

Throughout his life, Dwight worked tirelessly to provide for his family. He held many jobs, including car salesman, Huntsville prison guard, employee at R.G. LeTourneau, truck driver, and worked for David H. Gibson Company and Freeman Decorating as an exhibit carpenter and purchaser. In 1989, he started his own business, Best Box Company, where he designed and built crates for exhibit houses for 13 years.

Dwight was a passionate lover of music, especially country music, and sports. He was an avid hunter and fisherman in his spare time. A kind and observant man, Dwight was always willing to stop and offer help. He was also creative in woodworking and pottery. Above all, he loved spending time with his family. Colorado held a special place in his heart as his favorite vacation destination.

He was a longtime member of the Church of Christ, and after moving to Prosper, he placed membership at Prestonwood Baptist church North.

Dwight is survived by his wife, Jean, and their two daughters: Phyllis Cauthen and her husband, Terry, and Rhonda Hydeman and her husband, Rob; two grandchildren, Alicia Bell and her husband, Tobin, and Blake Hydeman. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and in-laws who he loved dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents and his three siblings: Reford Spain, Rowena Stone, and Cecil Spain, as well as a nephew, Doyle Stone Jr., and a niece, Rena Kay Glover.
