Dr. Joan Bernice Weathersbee Ellason was born on August 1, 1956 in San Angelo, Texas to parents Louis Walter and Emma Lou (Crosswhite) Weathersbee.
The youngest of three siblings, her sister Judy described Joan as the “core that held the family together”. She graduated from Christoval High School in 1974 and moved to Austin, Texas where she developed her voice and passion for music; she held a position as the Lead Female Vocalist of the U.S. National Guard.
A deep desire to help others led her to pursue a career as a Licensed Professional counselor. She received her Masters of Arts and doctorate of Philosophy at the University Texas at Arlington. She earned her certifications in EMDR and Hypnotherapy, authored three books, became an Ordained Minister, and was heavily involved in her church. However, she would likely place her son at the top of her impressive list of accomplishments.
She loved expressing her eccentric and fun personality in her clothing, and loved the color purple, along with tiger and leopard-print everything.
Joan is survived by her son Chad Ellason; sister Judy Melton and husband Mike, brother Steve Weathersbee and wife Hope; nieces and nephews Shane Melton, Christy Mc Elyea and husband Dale, Jordan Weathersbee, Anna Grace Weathersbee and Rachel Weathersbee and her dog Mack; along with many loving friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 14, 2025, at Hunters Glen Baptist Church in Plano.
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made in Joan’s name to Hunters Glen Baptist Church.
