Dr. J. Michael Morrissey

June 3, 1966 — April 5, 2023

Dr. J.Michael Morrissey was born June 3, 1966, in New Britain, Connecticut to parents Robert and Helen (Onorato) Morrissey.

Dr. J. Michael Morrissey was a talented, skilled, and gifted surgeon who made it his mission to do his utmost for those in his care. His practice was distinguished by his emphasis on integrity and unparalleled attention to detail. Mike earned patients’ trust by providing them a high level of personalized care with outstanding results.

Mike received his medical degree from Georgetown School of Medicine in Washington D.C. While in medical school, he joined the U.S. Airforce and became a captain and flight surgeon. He cared for the pilots and families of a B-52 squadron, deploying to the Indian Ocean with the crew. He was extremely proud of his service to his country. He completed his General Surgery Residency at Methodist Dallas Medical Center, followed by a prestigious fellowship in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Wisconsin. He was a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and The American Board of Plastic Surgery, Inc. He was a board-certified Plastic Surgeon for 19 years. During that time, he received numerous accolades and awards including the RealSelf Hall of Fame and Top Doctor 2022.

Mike’s dedication to his work was only surpassed by his devotion to his family. He was an amazing husband and father and a very active part of his children’s lives. He was a brilliant, witty, genuine, caring man who treated everyone with warmth and kindness. Humor was part of his everyday life, and he knew how to keep his family and friends all smiling and laughing. Though quiet by nature, his presence made those around him relax and feel welcome with a smile or a warm joke. He preferred genuineness over the ornate, enjoyed a good take-out meal, and had a deep affinity for time at the beach. While he always returned from a day in the sun redder than a tomato, he would head back to the beach the next day, unable to stay away from a place he loved. As in all things, he loved with fervor and enthusiasm.

Education was a very important part of his life. As an undergrad, he attended College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts. He recently had the opportunity to take his children to the college campus and was beaming with pride as he led them on a tour of the school, sharing fun anecdotes from his college years.

Always humble, Mike would never admit that he was quite talented as a guitar player and an athlete. He loved rock ‘n roll music and collected electric guitars, which he taught himself to play by ear. Baseball, basketball, and golf were sports Mike excelled at from a young age. During his high school years, the golf coach and baseball coaches fought over having Mike on their on their teams (baseball won!). He holds the all-time highest score in a basketball game of 63 points at his grade school to this day. Mike was also passionate about golf; one of his life’s highlights was when he played Pebble Beach Golf Course after completing his Plastic Surgery Residency.

While Mike had many skills and talents, he will most be remembered by his family and friends as someone who brought joy and laughter to their lives.

Mike is survived by his loving wife Michele Morrissey and children Madison and Jack Morrissey; brother Robert Morrissey and his wife Jodi; and niece Sarah Morrissey. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive friends for a visitation Wednesday, April 19, 2023 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Allen Family Funeral Options.

There will be a mass to celebrate Mike’s life Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 12:00 noon at St. Rita Catholic Community, 12521 Inwood Road, Dallas, Texas, with Rev. Michael Forge officiating.

Mike will be laid to rest with military honors at the Dallas-Ft Worth National Cemetery.
