Douglas Lee Day passed away peacefully, with family by his side, on July 21, 2022 in Carrollton, Texas. Doug was born on October 16, 1939, in Kansas City, Missouri. He was the eldest son of the late Samuel Douglas and Irene Lee Day.
In his early years, Doug was a member of the Boy Scouts, earning an Eagle Scout Badge in 1954. He enlisted in the Navy following graduation, where he received Avionics Electronics training. He was then transferred to the Patuxent River Maryland Naval Air station. It was during his time in Maryland that he met Sally Mason, whom he later married on October 1, 1960.
After leaving the Navy with an honorable discharge in 1964, he moved his wife and daughter to Kansas City, Missouri. Doug relocated his family to Beaverton, Oregon and later to El Paso, Texas. He was offered a position with the FAA and was relocated to Beaumont, Texas, then Fort Worth, Texas. Doug retired from the FAA after 31 years of service. He later attended Amberton University, earning an MA in counseling. Doug became an ordained minister of the Assemblies of God in 1983. He worked in several Fort Worth area hospitals as a chaplain. Doug became a certified Crisis Chaplain and was registered with Homeland Security for crisis response. He also volunteered as a chaplain for the Fort Worth Police Department. Over the years serving as a chaplain, he blessed so many during their times of greatest need.
Doug loved the outdoors, starting early with his years as a Boy Scout and later taking his family on many camping and hiking trips. He shared his love of the outdoors with his grandsons and was very involved in their time as Boy Scouts. He was an avid Ham radio operator for many years. Doug and Sally were active members of their church, Bethesda Community Church in Fort Worth, Texas for over 30 years.
During his final months, Doug was provided extraordinary and loving care from Faith Presbyterian Hospice.
Doug is survived by three daughters, Laura Park and husband Danny; Gail Russell and husband Robert; and Rebecca Dennis and husband David. He is also survived by his brother John Day and wife Lisa, as well as 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and 3 nephews and 1 great-nephew. He is preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Mason Day, granddaughter Riley Dennis and grandson, Jared Freeman.
