Dorothy May Nemoseck was born May 1, 1933, in Washington Township, Pennsylvania to parents Paul and Ruth (Kerns) Hawk.
Born into a household of father, mother, eight siblings and two uncles, Dorothy’s early life must have been unusual to say the least. Not much is known of those early years, but it was during those years that Dorothy became the person we knew throughout the rest of her life. She often credited her mother with being a good teacher and role model that she could emulate.
Dorothy met Raymond Nemoseck, Sr., when both were in their teens. Because they were so young when they married (she was eighteen), some doubted the ability of their relationship to withstand the hardships that would inevitably come. However, it stood for more than fifty years, with a strong foundation based on their belief in God and their willingness to overcome everything that would come their way. Soon, Marcia and Raymond, Jr. would be born into their union, and later would come five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
They loved to travel and visited most of the states in the US, as well as visiting many foreign countries. As a young family, they loved outdoor adventures, doing much of their travel in a panel truck (their little “camper”). Dorothy loved cooking, baking, playing games with friends and family, knitting and crocheting, solving crossword puzzles and playing games (especially board and card games). She made many greeting cards and wrote many cards and letters to communicate with family, friends, missionaries, and other acquaintances.
Always helping someone, she cared for her husband and her children and grandchildren, often putting the needs of others before her own. She maintained a healthy diet and took care of her physical body. She read the Bible thru every year for at least the past forty years; loved her daily devotions; and stayed faithful to her church until the end.
Her hope throughout her adult life was based on a strong personal relationship with Jesus Christ. She never lost her zeal to tell others about her Lord. Upon being admitted to the hospital in her last days on earth, she announced to the medical personnel that she was “Jesus’ daughter.” She left behind an amazing testimony and a strong legacy for her family and friends.
Dorothy is survived by her son in law Roger Maddox; daughter in law Susan Nemoseck; grandchildren Revelie Maddox, Jennifer MacArthur and her husband Doug, Tracey Byrd and her husband Robert, Kirsten Maddox and David Nemoseck; great grandchildren Ethan Tamayo, Gwynevere MacArthur and McKenzie Byrd and siblings Ruth Ann (Babe) Stadterman and Harry Hawk. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Arthur Nemoseck, Sr.; daughter Marcia Ann Maddox; son Raymond Arthur Nemoseck, Jr; siblings Mildred Hunter, Albert Hawk, Paul Hawk, Dolores McKee, Betty Warren and Donald Hawk.
Dorothy will be laid to rest with her husband at Restland Memorial Park, Dallas, Texas.
In remembering Dorothy’s legacy, gifts to The Gideons International www.gideons.org would be most appropriate and appreciated as Dorothy was a longtime friend of the Gideons.
