Dorothy Ann Carnes

August 9, 1937 — January 7, 2018

Dorothy was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on August 9, 1937 to parents Jack and Grace (Lynch) Waters. She went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on January 7, 2018 in McKinney, Texas.

She grew up in Dallas where she graduated from North Dallas High School in 1955. After high school she took some courses at SMU and worked for Core Laboratories, Inc. in Dallas, Texas, where she met and married Albert C. Carnes Jr. in April of 1962. She was a fabulous cook and enjoyed entertaining friends and family for special occasions. She was creative, resourceful and gifted in many ways, including being quite good at sewing and needlepoint. Her house was always spotless – definitely a “Mrs. Clean”! She enjoyed traveling and absolutely loved being a doting grandmother. Dorothy and Al attended Central Christian Church in Dallas for many years. She spent the last eight years of her life with a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s and her final three years were spent at Grand Brook Memory Care in McKinney, Texas. We are very grateful to the caring staff there.

She was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Grace Waters of Corsicana, Texas, her brother Jackie Waters of Corsicana, Texas, and her son, Russell B. Smith III of Mission Viejo, California. She is survived by her devoted husband Albert C. Carnes Jr., her daughter Carin Stein, her son Kevin Carnes (Su) along with her grandsons Cole and Connor Carnes all of McKinney, Texas. She is also survived by her niece (her brother’s daughter) Tasha Waters Barker (Dennis) and her great niece Miranda Barker of Austin, Texas.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 11 AM with reception immediately following at Christ Fellowship Church, 2801 Orchid Drive, McKinney Texas 75070.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or charity of your choice.
