Dorothy R. Capatosto

November 9, 1933 — January 31, 2020

Dorothy Rachel (Smith) Capatosto of Plano, Texas passed away on January 31, 2020 in Dallas, Texas at the age of 86.

Dorothy was born in Mifflinburg, Pennsylvania to Archie Dow Smith and Rachel Oakes, the youngest of five daughters. She went to high school at Niagara Falls High School, Niagara Falls, NY serving as the Senior Class Secretary and graduating in 1951.  She married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Richard P. Capatosto in 1952.  They moved to Illinois College, Illinois where she worked for Nesco as a phone operator and administrative assistant until Richard graduated and was commissioned in the United States Marine Corps. They were married for 64 years before Richard passed in 2016.

Dorothy was completely devoted to her family.  A loving wife and mother, she dedicated her life to supporting her husband and raising her two daughters (all of whom became U.S. Marines under her watch). Having earned a Medical Assistants Certificate, she often volunteered as a school nurse and was very involved in many Marine Corps officer’s wive’s activities and volunteer efforts.  Upon Richard’s retirement from the U.S. Marine Corps they moved to Plano, Texas where they maintained many long and treasured friendships with co-workers and neighbors.

Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, Pamela F. (Capatosto) Garcia of The Colony, Tx, and Terri K. Capatosto of Wake Forest, NC; her sisters Ruthie Smith of North Tonawanda, NY and Gracie Scott of Lewiston, NY; her grandchildren SRA Kyle Rohlfs, USAF, of The Colony, TX, and Jordynne Magnuson-Capatosto of Wake Forest, NC; and her great grandchildren Phoenyx Rohlfs and Maximus Rohlfs. She is preceded in death by her husband Richard P. Capatosto, her parents Archie and Rachel Smith, her sisters Jean Dolan and Mary Burton, and her grandson Sean Rohlfs.

Funeral services will be held at Allen Family Funeral Options at 2112 W. Spring Creek, Plano, Texas on February 10, 2020 with visitation from 10-11am, memorial service at 11am with the Reverend Dr. David Batchelder of West Plano Presbyterian Church presiding. A short reception will follow the service. A funeral procession will depart from the Allen Family Funeral Options location at 1:15pm for a burial service at the DFW National Cemetery at 2:30pm.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all who knew and cherished Dorothy through the years. We will miss her tremendously and find peace and hope in knowing she is now with the Lord and reunited with her husband and those she loved deeply who preceded her.
