Donald (Don) Hawkins

November 26, 1941 — January 25, 2023

Donald (Don) L. Hawkins was born on November 26, 1941 in Hamburg, Iowa to parents William Richer and Frances (Williams) Hawkins.  He joined the Kingdom of Heaven on January 25, 2023 and was a former resident of Allen, Texas.

Before graduating from Drake University, Don married the love of his life, Mollie S Campbell on July 5, 1963, in Omaha, Nebraska. They were married for 49 wonderful years and had two sons, Bill and Kevin.

Don had many interests including coin collecting, golf, automobile auctions and football. He followed numerous teams, but always kept up with the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Dallas Cowboys. Don also had a very special bond with his best companion, Rascal, an energetic Bichon Frise’.

After starting his sons, Bill and Kevin with coin collecting years ago; he carried on the tradition with his great grandkids and was renowned for handing out crisp $2 bills on all birthdays and holidays.

Don was a very hard-working professional having spent many years in the pharmaceutical industry working for Baxter, Allergan and the American Red Cross. He was also a member of the prestigious American Society of quality control professionals.

Anyone that knew Don knew of his generosity, his calm and cool demeanor, as well as his tremendous love for his family. Don was a loving and committed husband, a generous and supportive father and the best Pawpaw his grandkids and great grandkids could ever have.

Don is survived by his children Bill Hawkins and wife Jill of Fairview Texas, Kevin Hawkins and wife Kimberly Hawkins of Carrollton, Texas; grandchildren Ryan Flota and wife Michelle of Murray, Kentucky, Libby Hertzberg and husband George of McKinney, Texas, Blake Hawkins and wife Morgan of Richardson, Texas, Kelsie and Keaton Hawkins of Carrollton, Texas; great grandchildren Max, Myles and Baer Hertzberg, Ava Claire and Liam Flota, Reese and Easton Downey; brother Steve Bauer and wife Mary of Des Moines, Iowa; niece and nephew Chris and Nicole Bauer and many other family members across Iowa, Missouri, Colorado and more.  He was preceded in death by his wife Mollie; parents William and Frances Hawkins; sister Denise Michelle Hawkins.

A funeral service will be held to celebrate Don at 12:00 noon, Friday, February 3, 2023, at Allen Family Funeral Options with Pastor Katy Bailey officiating.  A one-hour visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to service from 11:00 a.m.  If you wish to join the service via webcast, please visit: Donald (Don) Hawkins (funeralvue.com)

Don will be laid to rest with Mollie following the funeral at Pecan Grove Cemetery, McKinney, Texas.
