He played the trumpet in the band, but his love was always athletics---playing on the basketball and baseball teams. He attended Weatherford Junior College and TCU before graduating from Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth.
Most of his career as an algebra, math and drivers’ education teacher was spent at South Grand Prairie High School—teaching there for 31 years. He taught drivers ed at a private driving school after retiring from public education.
He married Alice French on January 25, 1963, and they welcomed two daughters, Donna and Jo with a son, Grady between them. They raised their family in Grand Prairie, Texas.
His students recall “Mr. Clark” as being a tough teacher but working hard to help them succeed. He was known by all as having quite a dry sense of humor and as a quiet, gentle man. He enjoyed woodworking as a hobby and made countless gifts for family and for friends. He seldom missed watching the Texas Rangers games---especially in his later years. He was also a Cowboys and Longhorns fan.
Donald is survived by his children Donna Bateman (Bart) of Plano, Texas, Grady Clark of Jensen Beach, Florida, Jo Whittaker (Matt) of
Circleville, Utah; fifteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; his brother-in-law Marvin Burkhalter; and nine nieces and nephews.
