Don Jacobs

February 11, 1937 — April 17, 2018

Arleigh Don Jacobs was born February 11, 1937 and went to his heavenly home April 17, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Louise Jacobs. Don lived in Grandview until he graduated from high Grandview high school in 1954 at the age of 17. After graduating, he moved to Dallas and worked until he decided he needed to go to college. Arlington State College, which is now UTA, was his first choice. From ASC, Don went to Texas Tech, where he graduated in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering. At this time, he decided to further in education and earned his Master’s Degree in electrical engineering.

After graduating from Tech, he went to work at General Dynamics, but his dream was to work at Texas Instruments. In 1962, he received the job offer that made his dream come true. He went to work for Texas Instruments in the defense department designing radars. After 34 ½ years with TI, he retired at the age of 59. But Don couldn’t just stay at home and do nothing. He continued to work as a consultant for Boeing Aircraft. While attending ASC, he met a beautiful young high school girl named Louise Williams. They married in 1960 and she gladly followed him to Texas Tech. Their story does not end here, as they went on to have 3 daughters; Donna, Julie, and Jill. Through the years, their family increased by 2 son-in-laws, Bret McCullough (Julie’s husband) and Julian Vasquez (Jill’s husband), 7 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. Grandchildren are Cody, Brandi, Dustin, Caitlyn, Christopher, Lauren, and Everett. Great granddaughter is Aubri.

As a child, he FELT he had accepted Christ, but at the age of 27, he truly accepted Christ and knew for certain in his heart that he was a Christian. In 1964, he was ordained as a Deacon at Northrich Baptist Church, Richardson, Texas. In 1969, Don and Louise moved to Allen, Texas and became members at First Baptist Church. Don was elected as a deacon at this time. At FBC Allen, Don served as a deacon, served on several committees, and at one time, nursery coordinator. He used the talent and knowledge that God gave him to work behind the scenes, never wanting to be in the spotlight. Then in 2015, Don was honored by being named Deacon Emeritus at First Baptist Church Allen.

In the 70’s, he started working with a Christian building group that spent 1 week building churches, fellowship halls, and other buildings that might be needed. Eventually, these building trips turned into 2 week trips and Don was elected as a crew chief. He felt this was a talent God had given him and this is what he was called to do. After many faithful years of service, he was forced to give up this part of his life. This was a sad day for him.

Don Jacobs is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Louise Jacobs, his 3 daughters, 2 son-in-laws, 7 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. He was a loving husband, father, Granddad, and great Granddad.

He was loved and honored by many, and will be greatly missed by many, especially his family. But he will always be in the hearts of his family, friends, and loved ones.

The family will receive friends at a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 20, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Allen, 201 E. McDermott Drive, Allen, Texas 75002. Funeral services will commence at 11:00 a.m. and Don will be laid to rest at Allen Cemetery following the funeral service.
