Don Biehl

October 14, 1942 — January 18, 2022

Donald Lee Biehl returned to his Heavenly Father on January 18, 2022, in Plano, TX at his home surrounded by God, family, faith and love. He was born October 14, 1942, in Aurora, Illinois to Gordon and Jean Biehl of Hinckley, Illinois.

Don was raised in Aurora where he was known for his high energy and friendly humor at school. He was successful in playing sports and playing the tenor saxophone in the senior high dance band. After graduating from West Aurora High School, Don attended Valparaiso University in Indiana where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Advertising in 1965.

He began his commercial insurance career in Minneapolis, Minnesota with the Aetna Life & Casualty Insurance Co. in October 1965. His early career path led him to Los Angeles, Detroit, San Antonio, and Denver, where he met his soon-to-be wife, Teresa Ontiveros.

His continued professional success led him to Chicago where he married the love of his life, Teresa, on November 28th, 1981, in Naperville, Illinois. They were blessed with two children - Michael and Lyndsay. He spent their childhoods fully present, never missing their soccer games, band or choir concerts, or doctor appointments. A vivid memory his children remember was waking up on a Sunday morning in Connecticut, opening the window blinds and singing, “It’s a beautiful day, it’s a beautiful day, for hot cereal. Hot cereal. Today!” or “Keep things neat, clean and organized!”

Don’s advancement at Aetna sent him to Hartford, Connecticut, Sacramento, California, and ultimately Dallas, Texas. He retired with the newly merged Travelers Insurance Co with 35 years of service in 2000.

Don was a long-time member of the Plano Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4380, where he served as President of their Men’s Auxiliary from 2006 - 2009. One of his many successful accomplishments was his major involvement with the Plano Casey Joyce Scholarship Golf Classic for 18 years.

Don’s number one love was his wife and family, but loved gardening, golf, the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, Texas Longhorns, Dallas Mavericks, and poker.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Teresa; son Michael Biehl and his wife Gabrielle, daughter Lyndsay Johnson and her husband Justin; grandchildren Avery and Noah Johnson; sister Carol Benda and her husband Chuck (Slayton, Minnesota) and brother John Biehl and his wife Jean (Bloomington, Minnesota). He was also blessed with several nieces and nephews.
