Denyse Marie Henery

September 9, 1953 — October 15, 2020

Denyse Marie Henery was born September 9, 1953 in Belle Plaine, Iowa to parents Fred Louis and Adaline Mary (Caslavka) Hushak.  Known by her family as “Nammy.”

Denyse graduated from North Tama High School with the class of 1971. She excelled at 4H club, band, dancing and had a strong love for the animals on her family farm. She married, moved to Richardson, Texas in 1979 and had four children she adored. She retired from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2009 after 26 years of faithful service as an Administrative Assistant where she also made lifetime friends that she enjoyed spending time with. In her adult years, she ran, did jazzercise, sewed, shopped, frequented garage sales, made pottery, and walked to raise funds for Multiple Sclerosis. She loved watching her family and friends participate in the MS-150 bike ride in her honor. In her retirement, she spent time in Iowa with her parents during their remaining years caring for them, playing cards, and visiting the casinos. She also made annual trips to Arizona with her siblings where she enjoyed antique shopping, hiking, and relaxing. Last year, she began developing new friendships during Bible Study Fellowship (BSF). Through BSF, she was actively seeking the Lord with great diligence and enjoyed studying God’s Word and sharing what she was learning with her family.

Above all, Denyse was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was her children’s biggest cheerleader. Their rock growing up, she was considerate, tender-hearted, honest, a servant, and her smile came straight from the heart. She mothered everyone who would let her and she was a wonderful example of a caring, loving, selfless mother for her children.

Being a grandmother was one of the greatest joys of her life. She loved buying gifts for her children and grandchildren, but more than that she treasured time spent with them. She was a hands-on Nammy, wanting to be in the mix always. She nurtured others, loved to meet needs, and had compassion for anyone suffering. Some of her last days were spent serving the medical field by sewing masks and medical coats. From casinos to garage sales to animals to bible study, she loved to do a myriad of things.

She was also extremely funny and a kid at heart; every conversation with her was guaranteed a laugh. It didn’t matter if you were laughing with her or at her. She will forever be cherished and remembered by many.

Denyse is survived by her loving children Ryan Gillman and his wife Wendy, Rhea Heath and her husband Cody, Renee Gillman, Rachel Taloa and her husband Ryan; grandchildren Noah, James, Sam and Levi Heath, Karis and Brenna Taloa; siblings Leroy Hushak and his wife Jini, Kathy Moscinski; brother in law Ron Yuska and his wife Ruth and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Beverly Yuska.
