Dennis E. Chandler, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend was called home by his heavenly father on February 16, 2021. He was 83 years young.
He was born in Dallas on October 11, 1937 to W.C. and Lena Chandler. He grew up in Oak Cliff and graduated from Sunset High School in 1956. He played football and earned the nickname “Shakey”. He went on to Texas A&M University where he played baseball and was involved in Young Life. He graduated class of 1960 with a degree in Business. He then became an officer in the U.S. Navy on the Aircraft Carrier USS Saratoga where he served 3 tours assigned to the Combat Information Center. He had the distinction as one of the only junior officers on the Saratoga to serve as Officer of the Deck in port and underway. After the Navy, he became one of the top producing salesman at Bank Building Corporation until he retired in 2018.
Dennis’ faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of all that he did in his life. He didn’t just talk about Jesus, he displayed who Jesus was in how he treated others. He volunteered his time with Young Life, Campus Crusade for Christ, Joni and Friends camp for wounded veterans, Hooves for Heroes veteran’s organization and went on mission trips to Guatemala with Helps International. He was also an active member of his church, Christ Church Plano.
Of all the awards and accolades he received, his greatest accomplishment and joy was his relationships with family and friends. He invested greatly in them and treasured every lunch, chat, hug and gathering.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sandra; 3 children, daughters Ashley Chandler and Missy Chukhadarian, husband Vartan, and son Walter Chandler; 4 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and sister Joan Dunlap, husband Rex. As well as extended family that he loved and was loved by. His steady, caring nature and his great faith will be missed my many.
